Do you ever get a time in life where you fear something bad is about to happen. I mean right at this time an moment I just feel that something wrong is going to happen. My brother, who is a recovering alcholic, has been pretty down lately and he has been taking Ecstacy again and i fear for the man. I'm the only person he talks to about this stuff and i try to keep calm and everything and at the same time i try to help my mom out because she often has confidence issues as she.. well no need to go into that. I just fear that if it all comes together it will go wrong.

wow i didn't realise i made my mom out to be a bad mom. she is totally the best person in my life, apart from my g/f. she doesn't need counselling.

Keep trying. You are obviously very worried and a caring person. You cant monitor him always. He is a free person with the right to make choices. Do not blame yourself if something goes wrong, please dont. My suggestion is remember back to before the substance abuse and think about activities you used to do together try to get him into something like that. If he has a compelling need to get into drugs try to get him onto something softer. Do not risk yourself with legal problems though. Maybe he could get into over the counter painkillers this is not a solution but it is less detrimental and buy more time. Any ecstasy tablet could be the last one. Also make sure you have a good group of people around you so if something does happen to him then it will soften the blow at least it will give you someone to talk to.

I don't know your age,but I am guessing very young. Please understand that you cannot control another person, even though you feel that you can. It doesn't hurt to be your Mom's support system, and talk to her and give her encouragement.
Your brother has to seek help on his own. I hope he doesn't start drinking again, but the fact is, you are not responsible for him.
Family members should love and support one another, but you have a life of your own to live.
Whatever happens is out of your control.

i have had those feelings lots of times. i think it stems from the instability and uncertainty of the situation and your concern for your brother.
what i have found out, is that usually nothing bad happens as a result of these feelings, it's just a physical reaction because you are worried. try not to convince yourself that things will go wrong. you'll put yourself in a state of panic, and that is never good.
ask your brother to answer any questions that are tugging at you. continue to encourage him, and if he seems to be heading down the wrong path, don't be afraid to be blunt and in his face about it.

You know you guys interventions rarely work. I think what you need to do Chris is that you need to pull your brother aside and talk to him. Tell him that you fear for his life and the life of others. you should tell him that you miss the old brother be for he did drugs. Tell him no mater what ur always gonna love him but you cant keep seeing him hurt his self and others.

you cant change what will happen, just influence the decision of others, if this changes an outcome for the better because of your intervention. Good for you. If it doesn't and something bad happens then it was the choice of others and not yours. You cant blame yourself for other peoples hangups if you were not part of them.

they need to get some help for themselves, and i think you do also.i know there family but they'll drag you down with them,it seems your already doing as much as your capable of.family love works both ways they shouldnt be burdening you with there problems.
EDIT>the added info puts a different slant on it but the facts still remain the same your brother needs professional help and its your mothers responsibility to get it for him.its fine to want to help your family but not having a proper understanding of alchohol and drug addiction you can and probably are not helping him as much as you think.

I get those feelings a lot and most of the time bad things do happen. You should try to set up an intervention.

You sound worried and it seems you love your brother and your mom a lot. I hope your brother finds a way out of this and this feeling you are having i hope it fades.

I think we all feel like that at times Chris, especially when others need us so much, just try to be positive and without sounding selfish, remember you have needs and feelings too.
