Nothing would happen to the economy! There would just be a lot of people in need of a hair cut.

Honestly it would have the same effect in a ways as when illegal immigrants went on strike. In other words nothing really noteworry would happen. Now if white male prodestants went on strike there goes our economy. The economy is structured like a pyramid. If you take out a couple of bricks on the bottom nothing really happens, but as you get higher up the blocks get more important. The only thing I see suffering in a gay strike is maybe the fashion industry.

Usually both sides are hurt by a strike. Most could careless what you do behind closed doors as long as both parties are of age. My grandmother wasn't too pleased when she saw strait people doing it in the middle of the street. Yes the US is to hung up on sex & they use it to sell everything. Is it time for both gays & straits to acknowledge it is just so many inches of friction for a relative short amount of time. Yes God did creat great art in the human body & some treat that art better than others.

It's a free country, and I'm willing to find out. What are they striking for, exactly? The right to work? The right to shop wherever they want? Are their mobility rights hampered--is there somewhere they cannot go?
You cannot force people to like someone. Hatred is free speech. Some people hate everyone equally. Some people hate with bias. Good luck legislating hate.
And if it's gay marriage you are striking for, it might surprise you to learn that not all gays are interested in it.

Homosexuals/Bisexuals constitute roughly 5% of the American and world population. Now, if such a working bloc were to shut down entirely, the economy would slow dramatically. HOWEVER, the possibility of getting every gay to come out of the closet and quit working to protest is every unlikely.

err. they wouldn't do that. there are plenty of straight allies.
it'd definitely be a strike to the economy, though, when you have 10% less of your population paying for things, it can't be good.
edit-- the percentage of LGBT individuals in this country is much closer to 10% than it is to 3%.
and not all of them work in the stereotypical jobs others are placing them in.
however, i don't think the whole LGBT community would come out and support this cause and strike, because it would more likely just get them fired.

People would have horrible hair and decor, and it would serve them right.
Seriously, it's a pretty good idea, though. Even if the smallest estimates given here are correct, it would still have a pretty serious effect on the US at all levels. If you could team up with other disadvantaged groups, better still. Solidarity, brethren.

If 3% of the workforce decided not to show up for work I doubt anyone would notice.
Besides decorators and fashion designers are hardly an essential part of the economy.

It wouldn't hurt our economy but it would certainly hurt theirs. It also would not say any thing good about the intelligence level of the gay community.
