You can get wasp spray at Walmart that shoots 20'. This kills wasps on contact. When they come out and the spray hits them, the drop immediately.
I would wait until night, when they are all in the nest, and direct the spray at the entrance hole of the nest. Spray and saturate the nest. They will attempt to come out, but dead wasps will plug the hole.
Leave for a few days and monitor for activity. Once activity stops, knock it down, seal in a plastic bag, and dispose.

Garden centers sell a special spray for wasps. Home Depot or Lowes probably has it. It can spray a long distance. Wait until the sun has just about gone down and spray the nest thoroughly. The wasps will all be inside at that time. The next day, knock the nest down and destroy it.

The best way to do this is early morning or late evening when it is colder. The wasps aren't likely to be out of the nest then and you will be able to get all of them probably at one time.
Commercial sprays will do the job, but are toxic and can kill other things besides the wasps Plus are expensive.
A good homemade mixture of just plain dishwashing liquid in a good sprayer, such as a pump-up sprayer will kill the wasps without killing plants or poisoning pets either.
It's cheap and very effective. They will drop like flies, so to speak. After they are all killed, knock down the nest.

Very carefully. If you have a winter where you are the wasps are extremely slow right now. I would first get a can of wasp and hornet spray that shoots 15 or 20 feet. If you are in a warm climate and they are active now, you need to spray them very early or late when everyone is home. Then I would take a large plastic bag and carefully and swiftly wrap it and tie it off tightly. May not be really environmentally friendly, but those things are wretched.Good Luck.

The best way is to get the type of spray that you can use at a considerable distance; there are some that will shoot a stream of insect killer for about 10 feet. That way, you are not close enough for the wasps to connect the attack on their nest with your presence - although I think I'd still be ready to duck into some kind of protection after spraying.

I don't believe in using pesticides. If it is right over your door use water to knock down the nest, do it late at night or very early morning when they are not active. Other than that I would leave them alone. They kill alot of ugly worms that eat our trees, bushes, flowers and vegetable plants in the garden. They are truly our friends. If you are allergic to them, you need to inspect around your home every week beginning in early spring thru the fall so you can knock down nests. But if you are not, you are doing mother nature a favor by leaving them alone.
