In the future are we headed towards a more socialist society, liberal democracy or republic, conservative? Is it changing? I have this gut instinct that we are becoming more liberal and one day we will be the most chill country in the world.

Where was this country 20 years ago? 40? 60? 80?
The political climate changes in a democratic society and follows the will of the people. It does not happen all at once but gradually. This 'oscillation' allows the society to 'correct ' its path, so that over the long term it is neither too far left or too far right.

The voters proved they finally realize the Liberals have a stranglehold--downright monopoly--on goodness and morality, and that the Republicans pay only lip-service to it, while leading Mark Foley-like lives. Thus the land lunges left for a more Christ-like path.

Society naturally becomes more 'liberal'. Humanity is in a stage of constant advancement, conservatism is merely:
a) a blockage to good liberalism
b) a good group about at pointing out bad liberalism

Both elements are necessary to society, but humanity never steps in the same place twice.

The fear and hatred voiced by the conservatives on this board certainly gives me cause for hope. oooh yeah. I'm not popping the champagne just yet, but it's on ice. Chillin' if you will. If Ann Coulter comes out with one more hysterical outburst of profanity, I think we can say the future is ours.

We appear to be leaning left. If by chill country you mean one that stands for nothing, signs on to international agreements that are not in the best interest of US citizens, and continues to expand government at the expense of personal liberties. You could be correct in the short term. When the damage of these policies become apparent to even the most ignorant among us the backlash will be something I will welcome and you will fear
