Doesn't salt accelerate rust?

Regardless of its criminality there is no way it is a capital offense.

It would have been nice to have a reference to this "law"...

Most likely, it would date back decades ago, were the steel was of a lower grade and the salt would corrode the tracks, with the possible result of multiple deaths in a train accident.

Because it causes the rails to rust and deteriorate? Thus causing the death of alot of people, thus being attempted murder/pre-meditated..therefore you will be executed!
