Daylight Savings time is when the clocks are set ahead an hour. There are still 24 hours during it. Not sure what the difference is supposed to be. Supposedly it saves energy somehow.

One hour. It originally came into being so the the farmers had one more hour of daylight to work the crops. It also allowed the children to help before school.
