embarrassing, no different then it would be if you were having sex just not enjoyable.that's the best way i can explain it.

Its not that bad. If you have had sex then it won't hurt at all, just might be a little shocking. You lay like your having a baby, and a lady or man puts this metal things that's shaped like a penis that opens into you vagina and opens it, it might be a little cold. Then they take a q-tip with a long stick, rubs it along the wall of your uterus and you hardly feel it. Then they take it and out and your don't. They may look for any bruising or signs of an std.

I was so scared my first one, but it was over before I knew it.
They will have you undress and put on this little paper gown and wait and sit on the table then the doctor will come in, if you don't want the nurse in there, you can tell the Dr that. Then you will put your feet on the stirrups and she/he will tell you what they are doing and what you might feel. It doesn't hurt a bit, you might feel some pressure but that's it.

i think the reason women feel so embarrassed about it is that they think the doctor may judge them. once you realize that us doctors go to school and learn about all this stuff we get used to seeing genitals all the time and to us a vagina is nothing to laugh about its part of being a woman every woman has one right?! in school yeah at first we had our little giggles about it but we learn to get used to it and not to judge. its part of life and you should be proud of what you got! good luck at your appointment!
and as for caligal30 if you are only twelve you shouldn't be on this site you are 12 so you shouldn't be worrying about pregnancy anyways,

i dislike them they are uncomfortable they put this device in you and open your pelvic area up so they can go in and swab your vaginal area.it is not painful at least it shouldn't be.they put your feet up in stirups and put a sheet over your legs.every woman hates going throught his but it is necessary.
