For an audition song for an alto.

Neither. I don't care for either song. But Kelly Clarkson's range in those songs, I feel, is too high in parts and is out of the range of an alto.(I'm an alto also) and there are too many runs --many notes sung where it's actually written as one note. That might not always go over well in an audition. You want to show off how well you can sing the melody without a bunch of other stuff thrown in there.
Something more simple --such as a Carly Simon song or something by Jewel within your range would be good. Another one would be Melissa Manchester. I know these are older singers and you might not be familiar with their music--except maybe for Jewel. Songs by KT Tunstall seem to be in a lower range perhaps. She' s pretty recent.
