usually 1x /week; however, last summer's drought I didn't mow for about 6 weeks (no need to); then if we have a lot of rain it's 2x/week or better. Just depends on the type of summer we're having.

Mowing should only remove 1/3 of the height, plus or minus depending upon the species or blend of turf grass(s). So mowing will occur more often during periods of rapid growth. The 1/3 - 1/2 rule comes about as a measure to prevent cutting grass/lawn/turf too low, which gets down to the stem or lower on the leaf blade that is white. This low cutting damages the turf. To get a very good idea of how much to remove per cutting is to know what grass or blend of grasses you have. Then seek advice from Extension Services in your county or local university that has an agricultural/horticultural college. Use the web in this regard. Many universities have turf care department in their ag/hort college. Those people are your best source of information as they advise maintenance departments charged with maintaining sports fields and golf courses.

As said above, depends on the type grass and your climate. The cool season grasses such as bluegrass and perennial ryegrasses will grow faster in spring and fall and may need mowing as often as every 4-5 days. During summer the growth rate drops and temps increase.....to where every 7 days should be enough. The rule is to never remove more than 1/3 of the total leaf blade with each mowing. So if it is growing faster, you need to mow more often.

Creeping grasses......once a week is usually enough.

I assume you are talking of the summer dry period. It is best not to mow shorter than 3". This will keep your grass from getting stressed in the dryer months.

Once you see 4-5 inches of growth, mow it back to 3".

Depends on the grass, water, nutrients in the soil, amount of sunlight. Once a week is normal for a well maintained yard here.

Depends on the grass, the climate where you live, and how often you feel like doing it really. Once a week or once a fortnight is plenty.

SUmmer is for drinking and fishing - not mowing the grass.
