I have a math test tomorrow and I'm a dead man.

When I'm in class I understand everything perfectly, but when it comes down to the night before my mind goes completely blank. I look at it and I might as well be looking at chinese. What do I do?

Think of this test as homework, but yourself mentally in another place doing this homework. Don't rush through it, and tune everything else out.

If you have a hard time focusing when you go into a test, remember how you overcame other challenges in your life, like your first dive into the local swimming pool. You talked to yourself, right? Do this again, and persuade yourself to look at the questions in a relaxed and thoughtful manner.

If the clock intimidates you, then practice with your software or test-preparation book, using a kitchen timer. When the timer rings, reset it and move on to the next question no matter what. You will get used to thinking more efficiently and quickly.

If difficult questions make you panic, then the appropriate strategy would be to skip the difficult questions. On most standardized tests, some of the responses will be more difficult than others, and each response counts the same. Think of the fact that if you correctly skip the few difficult questions on the test and get all the others right, you are going to do very well.

If you have difficulty with a question and pass it by, you can always look at it again later if there is time. Faced with four or five multiple-choice responses to a question you understand, eliminate the one or two obvious wrong answers, then select the response that best answers the question. If you are still puzzled, do not respond to the question at all. Remember not to read too much into a question. Take the test questions at face value. The test makers are not out to trick you, believe it or not.

This will sound strange, but it works for me. When I study one thing, I only listen to one song. Fit the words of your problem or whatever, into the song, the hook part that they repeat. Or, I use a silly song, something you KNOW. Twinkle twinkle little star, etc, but change the words to fit what you are trying to remember. And then SING it while you study. Everytime time. When test time comes, and you see something familiar, just sing the song in your head, and boom!!! The answer comes, after a few times of doing this, the test stress lessens. Give it a try. If you sing the songs over and over, the info gets stuck in your head.

There is some great information on the web about math study skills and text anxiety. I don't know what level student you are (middle school, high school, college), but try some of the sites I've listed below:

http://euler.slu.edu/Dept/SuccessinMath.html
http://students.berkeley.edu/apa/staff%20training%20and%20development/handouts/math_study_skills.html
http://www.purplemath.com/stdysrvy.htm

There's much more out there, too. Just do a search for "math study skills" and you'll be surprised at how many sites offer tips!

Good luck!

Don't think of it as a test, think of it as class work.
If you understand the material, then there is no reason to freak out. you know the material, so as long as you try to answer the questions, you should do fine. focus on the questions rather then the fact that it's a test. study hard, and don't panic, and you'll do just fine

Follow my advice. Read all the formulae. In 8th all questions are application based I am in 9th,so i know it. Do no practice on last day. Close your eyes and pray to god for five minutes. He will help you for sure. Do not dicuss with your friends about questions. everything will be all right.

Please rank my answer as best! Best of luck for your exam.

If anxiety is killing your recall, maybe you can get a prescription for some anti-anxiety meds.

Not going to help with tomorrow, though.
