Was Shakespeare homosexual?
The only indication we have that Shakespeare might have been gay comes from the sonnets. In the early sonnets, Shakespeare writes about his great love, who happens to be a young man. While many people assume this to mean that he had a male lover and thus was either gay or bisexual, there are others who still believe that his male friend was not his lover but someone who was simply very close to him emotionally. We will never know for certain because we have such little information about Shakespeare's personal life. To find out more information on the subject, read the analysis of sonnets 1, 2, 18, 44, 104, and 144 in my 'Sonnets' section.

RE:
Was William Shakespeare Gay?
In a research paper I am formulating I have to have a passage on Bard's Sexuality. I know that he Married Anne Hathaway and Fathered three children, but left the family. Was this because he was homosexual? Even if this wasnt the reason, are there not sonnets at somehow prove Homosexual acts? if...

Just because someone writes with grace and beauty does not necessarily mean they were gay. In fact, homosexuality did not exist until the 1900's. It was not even considered or thought about until quite recently.
He was just a very romantic guy and put out as a pansy because he wrote about romance.
This has been discussed by philosphers and historians, and the fact was that he left Anne Hathaway for another woman. He was straight.

No offense, but what idiot is asking you for a passage on Shakespeare's sexuality? Please! Where are you going to school? San Francisco? Like that's important? I think not. He could have been a turnip. It's what he WROTE that matters, not whether he cross dresses. Gees!

He was actually married to Anne Hathaway and had 3 children. A girl and a pair of twins. But since then many historians have questioned his sexual orientation. Here's more information here:

He could have been gay. But now, a few centuries after he died, it is hard to prove one way or the other. When there is no proff of either homosexuality or heterosexuality, people usually assume (for God knows what reason) that the person was heterosexual.

The sonnets do pose a problem in this regard. Tradional thinking has him composing them for his patron. But his patron could have been his lover, so no one really knows.
