My left talus was shattered in a long fall last year. I had 3 months of external fixation. I still have very limited flexibility in that foot. Is there anything I can do to increase it?

Most people only think of joints as the larger joints in their body like their hips, knees, ankles, wrist etc. in actuallity, you have many more much smaller joints in your body and the talus is part of one. When you fractured you talus, you probably impacted that joint in your ankle/foot. Go back to you orthopedist and talk to him. You may be able to get away with Physical Therapy to increase you flexibility and decrease and continuing pain and swelling. Every once in a while the option to fuse that joint is excercised when nothing else seems to help. Good Luck.

The talus is the center of the ankle, as you discovered, and it has all the bones and ligaments of the foot affected by it. Gentle stretching will help. Calf stretches and rolling a golf ball under your shoeless foot are excellent ones, according to my doctor.

The talus is quite difficult to treat even with surgery. You have to be patient with supervised physiotherapy. That's your only resort now.
