More info.........are you planting at the base of the wall or on top? Do you want the plants to hide the wall or cascade over the top? Do you want mostly perennials, flowering shrubs, annuals, bulbs, etc? And what is your climate??

Atop walls I like prostrate rosemary, saponaria, sweet alyssum, lobelia, cascade petunias......oh my the list is long.

For a border, how deep? Will it be one row deep or deep enough for several different plants? Ideally 6 feet allows for a good three different type plants in depth; a border plant, medium and then upright in the back.

Don't know if you are looking at a water saving design, but go to www.highcountrygardens.com and look at their predesigned gardens for ideas.

For a retaining wall, I've seen someone use use 2 liter Coke bottles. They took the labels off first and it was a way to recycled the product (because they're plastic they will last forever too). He stacked them like logs so that the bottom "bumpy" part was the part that you saw. It looked cool.

Take pictures. Take countless those photograph's to an area nursury and consult with somebody approximately what the vegetation are, what their turning out to be situations of the vegetation will must be and then make some judgements on the thank you to proceed. try to stay with vegetation that are prevalent to do properly on your section. with the help of now, you will actually have a somewhat solid thought of your border thoughts besides. slightly study and a few legwork on your area will pay dividends later interior the form of a alluring panorama. suitable of luck Guru of Gardens
