Could be a few things, if this is a store bought disc, then your computer probably doesn't have the right specifications to run it (i assume it's the sims 2, which does need a way newer computer than sims 1).
If you downloaded it , the crack is probably bad. find a different crack, uninstall, then reinstall w/ new crack.

I believe you need to update your drivers. That's happened to me with a few games.
Another thing you could try, is right-clicking on the icon on your desktop and opening properties. Then you click on the compatability tab and check the box that says "Run in 256 colours". I did this for my GTA San Andreas after I had exactly the same symptoms that you're talking about. I didn't update my drivers for this method to work though, but you can try.

Do u have Vista?? that might be the problem. Also make sure ur computer is up to date. Where did u download it at?? I'm really thinking that the download was bad. Good Luck!!
