My family is from Sicily, and my grandmother keeps insisting that the pizza we all know and love is Americanized. I do agree that it's much different. She refers to "real" pizza as fish cakes...bread dough, cheese, and anchovies with sauce. She's so picky about what qualifies as actual Italina food. Don't even get her started on what is considered, in her mind, the most horrible, evil restaurant ever...Olive Garden. :) Last time we took her there, she caused a huge scene, yelling at the waiter about how the food was crap, and wasn't Italian at all. so, we don't go near there anymore.

Yes it is but it has been changed so much here in America--different crusts, weird toppings and so on.
.Some of the best pizza ever can be found in New Jersey where I used to live. It has a soft crust that is really hand tossed in the air until well stretched and has tons of soft cheese. The toppings are more of what you would find in Italy -- sliced Italian sausage, meatballs, eggplant, and of course pepperoni. I am of Italian heritage--also Sicilian -- and had a cousin back in Jersey who owned his own pizzeria. He made the best pizzas . You can also find a delicious pie (called pizza pie by old time Italians) on the boardwalk in Seaside Heights , NJ. Yes, even on the boardwalk you can find good pizza.

Hi, I live in Italy. American pizza and pizza found in most countries is very, I mean very different than the pizza you find in Italy. First of all, Italians will never share a pizza (they eat the whole pizza themselves). Second, the toppings/comibination of toppings is different than the ones found in the States. Third, Italian pizza tends to have a thin-crust (the only time I found a thicker crust is when I went to Salerno). Fourth, Italians bake their pizza in wood-stoves and not electric ones. Etc. etc.

It's become more Italian-American, I reckon.
I've been to Italy back in the 80's and I didn't get to eat one single slice of pizza, can you believe this?!?
I was gonna get a refund on my whole trip, I was so pissed!!!
Only kidding!
