You can't break your own water!! When a doc does it they use a specially designed tool which is sterile!! If you break your own water when it's not ready to go your basically inviting bacteria and infection into your vagina and to your baby! If you have your water broke in the hospital they wont let you go home for that reason!
If your around your due date and want to start things off, the only thing you can do is to try the old fashioned methods! Go for a long walk, have sex, eat something spicy, I even heard ginger beer could help!! And if your past your due date, try asking your health care provider to do a membrane sweep. Labor generally starts witihin 24 hours of having it done!

The only way to break your water on you own is to wait 40+ weeks of pregnancy until you go into labour, then WOW! they usually pop at some point, and you did it all yourself!
Otherwise, don't even try. Imagine a sink draining and just think what a bad position your baby's head could be sucked into if your waters are broken artificially before it's ready. Please don't risk trying.

Maybe going on a ride on a bumpy road may break your water if you're past your due date. Otherwise, the water will break when the time is right. With my first two sons, the doctor broke my water just before delivery. My water broke on its own the morning of my third's son delivery. ( he was born later that night) Don't even think about breaking your water on your own!!!!!!!!

Don't try. If you break your water before you are dialated and efaced quite a bit, you will create a very LONG labor and potentially a c section. You can only labor for around 24 hours after your water is broken. After that there is a risk of infection entering the uterus.
I swear by this: my husband (excuse the mental image) rubbed my nipples for 30 minutes and my water broke. It was the night before my due date, and I had her the next day.

no you don't want your water to break. the closer the water breaks to the baby coming out the better. breaking your water will not make you go into labor. If you are close to your due date. you can try having sex sometimes that helps or a hot shower.

It is best to let nature do its own thing. The water will break when it is the right time. That is probably the least of your worries. Just relax and let your body do what it needs to do. It is a wonderful time for you...

NO, only the Dr. can. He has a special tool for it.
You can try walking a lot to possibly help speed up the process. Or have an orgasm. I've heard that helps too. Either one might have an impact on starting your labor. But usually a baby won't come until it's truly ready.

Other than walking and driving down bumpy roads, I would not try inserting anything in there for fear of infection. Let things happen on their own or leave it up to the docs to break your water.

I have heard that Sex and walking are the best and only ways to try to go into labor. You could get an infection if you try anything else.
Let your body do its thing.
