There's a real distinction as others have mentioned between dating and sex.
According to the LawGuru Wiki (see the first source), the age of consent in Kansas is 16. So legally from both perspectives, you'd be doing nothing illegal.
However, keep in mind that your father likely has your best interests in mind - he's most probably thinking about a number of things, not just the law, when he's trying to stop you from dating an 18 year old. Try to think through it all and see the options before moving forward - theres no need to rush anything.

you can date, you can't have sex. it's only a big deal because you are so young , if you stop and think about it i beat there is a few years different between your mom and dad. maybe even more.
