California was part of Mexico before it was declared a republic by John Fremont in 1846 it was a republic until the US Annexed it .

We ware now in negotiations to give it and all the territory that we captured from Mexico back to Mexico. Well that's what the Minute Men say.

Define Country? I believe it was part of Mexico, but Mexico was part of the Spanish Empire still if I am not mistaken. So then does that mean it was part of Spain?
