POSSIBLE DIAGNOSIS:

Kidney stones (or nephrolithiasis, pronounced: nih-fro-lih-theye-ah-sis) result from the buildup of crystallized salts and minerals such as calcium in the urinary tract. Stones (also called calculi, pronounced: cal-kyoo-lie) can also form after an infection. If kidney stones are large enough to block the kidney or ureter, they can cause severe abdominal pain. But the stones usually pass through the urinary tract on their own. In some cases, they may need to be removed surgically.

POSSIBLE TREATMENT:

Treatment varies depending on the type of stone and the extent of symptoms or complications. Hospitalization may be required if the symptoms are severe. Most kidney stones can pass through the urinary system with plenty of water (2 to 3 quarts a day) to help move the stone along. Often, you can stay home during this process, drinking fluids and taking pain medication as needed. The doctor usually asks you to save the passed stone(s) for testing. (You can catch it in a cup or tea strainer used only for this purpose.)
