My Mother-in-Law started going by 'MaMas' (soft 's' as in 'moss') when she had her first grand-babies. I'm pretty sure she just made that up!
You could also use a word that means Grandma in some other language:
MeMe (Mi-May, with a short i) - French
Oma - German
Babushka - Russian

If I am fortunate enough to have grandchildren I want to be called Gammy !! We have two Nannie's in our family and it's very confusing to my almost 3 yr old. I know what you mean there about grandma, mawmaw, memaw, mam-maw, gandma, etc...

I have a friend who is a MiMi, an aunt who is an Anmom, and my great-grandmother was called "Duckie" by one of my mother's cousins. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want to go with my mom's choice: Grandmother. Sounds like a little old lady with a big old bun in her hair.

My daughter called her grandma (my mom) whatever she wants. So far she's been Mamaw, Emaw, Hemaw, Bermaw. Her other grandma wants to be called Noni but she gets called Grandma Petee.

My cousins and I called our grandma either mawmaw or memaw.
If that doesn't do it for ya, maybe look at the words for grandma in different languages-maybe you will find one that is unique that you like. For example, grandma in spanish is abuela (sp?).
Good luck and many congrats on the new grandbaby!

We called one grandma "Nan" - British for Grandma, and one "Louie" - her name was Mary Lou. My mother was a grandmother at 33, and all the grandkids call her "Mama Sue", her given name is Susan.
