I'm sure where you got that info, but I highly doubt it. They are the best CPU maker( my opinion) on the market and they just bought out ATI graphics card company. AMD, will be a force to rekon with in the near future.

I highly doubt that AMD is closing down any time soon... they still hold a market share, and after partering with graphics manufacturers ATI recently they are beginning to regain this. Intel still holds a large percentage of the processor market but AMD are still going strong.

I don't think soo , since they just merged with Ati ( they did not buy out ATI ) only merged with them , just like Intel uses Nvydia graphics now , and windows vista already comes with Nvydia drivers installed in the operating system , where ATI graphic cards have a major conflict with vista .

That would be strange since they just bought ATI.

From todays news:
AMD Delivers Program Offerings for Freedom of Choice for System Builders with Four New Platforms Based on the AMD 690G Chipset
BusinessWire - March 12, 2007 12:01 AM ET

AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced the expansion of AMD Validated Solutions (AVS) to include four new platforms based on the new AMD 690G chipset. This expansion brings the total number of platforms available through AVS to eight. Incorporating 3D graphics and optimized for the full-featured versions of the Windows Vista(TM) operating system including the Aero interface(1), the new motherboards can help AMD channel partners to quickly and affordably create differentiated, industry-leading commercial desktop solutions with the confidence of longevity, validation and support.

As part of the evolution of AVS, the four new AVS-validated and supported motherboards join four existing platforms that combine to offer unprecedented choice in building commercial desktop systems. The new motherboards are based on the recently-introduced AMD 690G chipset--AMD's first chipset with the industry-leading features of ATI Radeon(TM) X1250 graphics. The motherboards, which adhere to the AVS 15-month stability requirement, are designed to provide the ultimate Windows Vista Premium/Business experience.

"The ongoing mission of the AVS program is to offer our channel partners a choice of leading-edge platform options, and today's news marks a major milestone in this endeavor," said Ben Williams, vice president, Commercial Strategy and Solutions, AMD. "We've removed much of the guesswork and time of building, selling and supporting commercial desktop computers based on AMD64 technology by providing AMD validated and tested platforms from four leading vendors."

Motherboard providers Asus International, EliteGroup Computer Systems (ECS), Micro-Star International (MSI), as well as new participant Gigabyte Technology, now offer AVS commercial desktop platforms to the channel. The new platforms join four existing AVS--socket AM2 motherboards leveraging the AVS commercial stable infrastructure--to offer system builders flexibility in design with the confidence of longevity.

Members of the AMD Solution Provider Program receive the benefits of AVS, including:

-- Telephone technical support for AVS motherboards

-- Motherboard return service

-- Access to the online Solution Provider Support site 24 x 7

"EQUUS Computer Systems commends AMD for helping us accelerate our time to market with commercial desktop solutions based on the latest AMD64 technology through AMD Validated Solutions," said Joe Toste, vice president, Sales and Marketing for EQUUS Computer Systems. "A one-stop, comprehensive experience for service and support further reduces barriers to the market and aids our ability to offer differentiated solutions that address our customers' desire for simplified PC management in their businesses."

AMD 690 Series chipsets are designed to deliver a rich Windows Vista Premium experience, handling the Aero user interface and demanding workloads with ease.
