The only good software by Norton is Norton Systemworks. It does not hog the system like people say and it is very good and does better than AVG, adaware, and whatever fad program out there. Don't trust any website like the above mentioned for ratings. Now the best program out there is Spysweeper with Anti-Virus. That program is too good, gets better by the day, and covers over 170,000 threats, which is way more than any other program. It's 2nd to none.

I had Norton given by BT and it is awful. It makes the computer so slow, any computer! I advise you to remove it!
You will have to download a Norton Uninstaller from their website as there is no other way to remove it, this is what I did.
I then installed AVG anti-virus 7.5 free edition and everything was perfect after that. Norton was using up so much ram, and AVG doesn't!
I also recommend you downloading the following software:-
- CCleaner - keep your computer running fast
- Superantispyware - keep your computer free from unwanted software etc
- Zonealarm firewall (free) - keep your computer free from invasion
All of these programs are absolutely free!

I will certainly not be using Norton again, not even if was for free like it was with BT!

If you go to this site you will see that Norton and AVG did not do very well in detection and removal of viruses during this Independent test.

Kaspersky and Active Virus Shield did the best. The reason AVS did a good as Kaspersky is because it uses Kaspersky as its AV program.

Although the Active Virus Shiele is porvided by AOL it is completely free. No membership or email account required. There are no strings attached to this free service. I know, that is unusual for AOL, but it's true.

So, If you want the best go here for the free version:

Norton is ok providing it works ok - I used to work on Fujitsu Siemens helpdesk and it used to cause no end of greif. For free, use AVG antivirus, it does the job.
