Mainly a serious security overhaul. If you have plain XP, but have done the updates, you are running XPsp2.

If i am not mistaking the difference between win XP and XP SP2 , is that SP 2 has alot more features ranging from minor updates up to adding alot more to XP's security.

Service Pack 2 is a mostly software updates for files or settings security. Probably one of the most seen features included into SP2 is the firewall and the security analyzer that ensures that automatic updates, firewall and antivirus are updated and functional. Like any OS, nothing is perfect and they need to release cumulative updates between software releases.
