Technically, you are correct, the confederates were traitors. They were in no way terrorists, however. And modern day supporters are in no way traitors, they are exercising their freedoms. Some do cross the line and become terrorists, or even traitors, but they are the vast minority.
To me, the main thing about this whole issue is that the south lost. Modern "sons of the south" are like cheerleaders for the team that lost the playoffs.

The answer to your question is that even though
Confederates are traitors, in your book, the following
is what happened historically.
After the surrender at Appomatox the soldiers were
considered paroled - allowed to keep small arms-
for hunting and protection- and allowed to go home
to their lifes.
The main traitor, Robert E. Lee, was not arrested
but lived his life out as the President of a College
and considered a hero in the South. He was never
absolved of his "traitorous" activities even though
he asked congress for forgiveness many times.
I agree that the Confederate Flag does not belong
in our life today and the tenants of the Confederacy were
defeated and should die in those that may believe in there
reality.
My great-great-grandfather was a Calvary General
in the Confederacy-this is part of my heritage-it does not
make him right and it does not make me a person who displays a Confederate flag...it is just a reality. When
the Confederacy lost the war the states and the people
re-entered the Union, joined the military and have evolved into the progressive south that exists today. Yes, they were traitors to a United States, that they did not agree with.

All they wanted to do was form there own government. They felt like they had been neglected and in a way they felt the union was the one that traited on them. In no way they are considered terrorists and the flag has a lot to do with the ups and downs our country as a hole has had to face. If your father had fallen under your states flag would you care to see it taken away from you?

You have the perfect screen name Dangerous Dave. It's obvious to me that you are 'flaming'. Sorry, I'm not going to be sucked in.
I was born in the South, raised there by Southerners, love it, love the culture, love the Stars and Bars. My regard and respect has nothing to do with hatred, racism, terrorism.
But if those thoughts bring you joy, think on. I find it amusing that you are so angry about something that happened 150 years ago.

Confederates are the best Americans. Yankees defied God and common sense, and started all the social problems we have today by freeing slaves. Even the Cherokee Indians have more sense. Might as well put MLK on the dollar bill, learn to speak spanish, and pimp your daughters to the arabs. Our way of life here is over if you listen to the media bullshit and the idiots like you online. Go back to your porno sites.

No. I think is has more to do with family and regional culture. Misguided they may be, to uphold regional pride, but I dare say all but a fringe few, love this country and would stand up and fight for it.
It may be hard for someone outside the south to understand, but, regional pride, even wrapped in the confederate banner, has nothing to do with national loyalty or desire for further revolution.
