As those before me have said, Richard Hammond's jet car crash had a lot to do with it, the series had already been delayed because of that, so maybe they just wanted to get a few episodes broadcast, rather than being off air even longer. Six episodes are better than none, after all...
The next series will be shown in summer, according to Voiceover Person, plus there will be a Comic Relief special on March 16.

Panic not Top Gear worshippers, there is a new series in the summer,I think poor hamster isn't fully mended yet, but hey, roll on the next show.So funny and witty as well as being informative to all us motor maniacs.Be well to the Hamster and Co.

this isn't the first time this happened. Season 7 lasted 6 episodes (7 if you count the special olympics episode)

It was supposed to be 6 episodes..i think there were 5. It costs a fortune to make, which is probably the reason. The viewing figures must be high though because everyone seems to like it. We absolutely love it, and I for one worship Clarkson!

The fact Richard Hammond wasn't able to film for a third of it, after his accident, is a pretty good explanation.

i was disappointed that this was the last in the series but it was a great one to end on!! i was in stitches watching the 3 of them driving around london!! pure brilliance!!!

Nothing to do with the poor Hamster being almost dead for a while. They did it just to annoy you.
