Sorry I forgot to type all the details...
there are two people whose names i might change now. The first girl is a 14 year old girl, with blond hair blue eyes. She is basically the main character. The books setting is in a large kingdom. It is kind of like a different world from ours. She is a princess in a very large kingdom, her mother and father were assassinated when she was about five or so. Every one has hated her because of some thing her parents had done so she wants to run away from her miserable life(Sorry im not gonna put EVERY THING that has happened). The Second girl is a little bit older, she is a 15 year old girl, has black hair and blue eyes and she is the leader in a large group outside of the kingdom (Im not gonna say why there is a group... youll have to wait until i actually get it published, or ATLEAST FINISHED:)) Yea it is kind of like a magical story some what like harry potter but i should say there are NO unicorns, magical creatures, witches, or sorcerers!!!!

It's kind of difficult to say if her name should be Naomi without knowing the setting of your book. Naomi is a good name, but if you are in the tropics, maybe a more exotic name. If she is in the Hampton's maybe a more traditional name. Do you know what I mean? What is her last name? What are the other names in the book? If you have Naomi paired up with an all American boy named Brad she will have to be more edgy than him. Do you see where I am going? You can email me if you want some help........I'm kinda good at stuff like this.
LOL! There was no other answers when I started to write this. Looks like we had the same idea though!

Here are a couple of suggestions: consider ethnicity and economic background. Also consider someone you know and how you feel about them. I once named a character after this girl I hated--that dislike really fed into my portrayal of this character even on a subconscious level.
I also look at baby name books. I've included a really useful site below. Ignore the cute little baby blocks, hahaha.
I am apt to put a name in my 3x5 filing system, jotting down where I heard the name and what images the name conjured.
Good Luck.

I think it would depend on what type of a story. Where is the setting? Is it in the country, the mountains, a large metro area? I like the name Naomi, but when I hear that name I picture a large town or big city. If it's Nicole, I would see more small town, for example.

Good luck on your book. Writing a book is hard enough, finding a good publisher is another. I'm on my third book and had no idea the decisions I would need to make. So, Good Luck and keep-up your determination.

Naomi makes sense if your character is Jewish or from an Old Testament Bible-thumping kind of household. If I saw a character in a book named Naomi, I would consider it a possible Biblical allusion, and I would look for similarities between the Biblical Naomi and the literary one.

Well, it's a tough call and you can only decide for yourself. But if the name doesn't seem to fit with you, you might want to check out http://www.behindthename.com. This is a great site that sorts names by gender, ethnicity, popularity, meaning, and more. It might be able to help you pick a name that fits your character.

it fairly is quite thrilling, certainly. i'm generally the only to fish for fantasy, quite than another mundane novel. See, i've got examine many sci-fi and fantasy books. a good distance too many cliche ones besides... This, and that i'm sorry to assert, suits under cliche. I recommend, yeah, it replaced into properly-known to have something particular happen at a particular age for a mutually as, yet while new authors bypass out and basically repeat it, it fairly is basically unbecoming. it rather is advisable to attempt something like... something occurs, the place faeries are death (conflict? Plague? etc...) and their powers are being handed directly to those with faerie blood in them? Who is familiar with, it is your tale. it rather is optimal to attempt and locate new opportunities interior of your thought. alongside with the full "realm"... i assume it could stay, as long as you attempt to contain WHY they desire a realm, quite than it basically being there, and then faeries basically stumbling on the earth and going, "Ooh, permit's bypass to!". It basically does not make experience in any different case. you may desire to do something the place faeries have consistently existed, yet their subculture and basically all know-how concerning to them has become run-down and forgotten by using overpopulation of the human race? ok, that replaced right into a run on... Sorry! XD besides, are not getting me incorrect- i'm no longer attempting to decrease on your tale. i will tell which you have a great sort of skill to write this. you have a good mind's eye and magnificent thoughts. you basically desire a tweak right here-and-there! shop writing, and don't supply up. good success! EDIT: by skill of how... i in my view like the full, waking up with a sword element. It style of ends they stereotypical view on faeries.

I think it all depends on what her character/personality is like, how old she is and where she is from.
Personally I quite like Elise, Amanda and Jo(anne). To me Elise is fiesty, Amanda cuddly with a big heart and Joanne always on the go.
I hope that helps

according to the readers digest character naming source book the names of major characters isn't really importent. what's more important is the name of minor characters because sometimes the only way you have of presenting them is their name.
