On the TV show 'Mythbusters' they tested it. They used several different types of music in separate greenhouses, and none of the plants that had music played to them grew any better than the ones with no music. So, in their words, the myth was busted.

I don't think it will affect plant growth (except for the CO2 released if you sing directly at them - which would increase their growth rate), but it might affect bacteria. Some bacteria are important for plant growth because they fix nitrogen. Is it possible that the bacteria could somehow be affected? More research is needed, but I thought that this was an interesting concept below.

TROY, N.Y. - Adam Zaretsky once spent 48 hours playing Engelbert Humperdincks's "Greatest Hits" to a dish of E.coli bacteria to determine whether vibrations or sounds influenced bacterial growth. Watching the bacteria's antibiotic production increase, Zaretsky decided that perhaps even cells were annoyed by constant subjection to "loud, really awful lounge music."

No. This is a very hackneyed science fair project. Plants respond to decibels (> 100db) equivalent to the sound of a lawnmover. Plants do not have any organs for detecting or processing sounds.

General music doesn't affect plant growth, but singing to a plant, is shown to help. The carbon dioxide from your exhale, singing toward the plant may actually help it to grow, while the plant gives off oxygen for you.

Yes. It has been proved that plants grow better when exposed to classical music rather than hard rock music.

Yes.

If it is loud enough, it is proven sound can be used to shatter things.
Think, if loud music from a car can rattle pictures off walls and physically move things, you do not think it can alter or kill plants too?
