Scientists have shown that the moon is moving away at a tiny yet measurable distance from the earth every year. If you do the math, you can calculate that 85 million years ago the moon was orbiting the earth at a distance of about 35 feet from the earth's surface. This would explain the death of the dinosaurs. The tallest ones, anyway.
I know this is a radical theory, but hey, it's the best that I have posted today.

to respond to this question, Gary Larson as quickly as produced a widespread "far facet" comic strip wherein the dinosaurs have been smoking cigarettes. i think of the latest medical thought, although, is that the dinosaurs in all probability died of climate substitute -- of their case, a thorough cooling of the factors triggered by potential of a good sized meteorite strike interior the Yucatan. The collision of the meteorite with the earth threw huge quantities of debris interior the air; it could even have delivered on volcanic action in lots of aspects of the international, and the volcanoes threw great volumes of ash and sulfur dioxide droplets interior the ambience. The sulfur dioxide aerosols and atmospheric dirt generated in this way is meant to have blocked a sturdy deal of the traditional image voltaic that falls on the earth and warms it. hence, the standard temperature of the air international is meant to have plummeted, and this led to the extinction of the dinosaurs and the upward thrust of the hotter-blooded mammals. This thought is one I found out numerous years in the past, although. there is extra present day medical examine that have changed it or contradicted it.

There's a layer of rock in the earth's crust that has an anomalously high concentration of iridium, this layer is worldwide and isn't found in such concentrations elsewhere in the rock column. Iridium is abundant in asteroids and this, along with the impact crater near the town of Chicxulub, Mexico pretty much confirms that an impact, followed by a long period of darkness and global cooling killed the dinosaurs.

Do the research and submit it and you could be a permanent member of the academy of science. The layer of iridium can be contributed to iridium being displaced from the moon by millions of impacts with the dinosaurs.

Do you have any idea how fast the moon would have to be going and what would happen to our atmosphere if the moon were 35 feet away?

And how would we have any old mountains over 35 feet tall if this were true?

The real reason was that too many dinosaurs lived at the same time, were flatulent and caused a greenhouse effect that killed them off.

I heard it was constipation -- the plants the dinosaurs ate developed a defense mechanism that plugged up the dinosaurs. After the plant eaters died, the meat eaters followed
