You don't mention what you'd like to use your laptop for. That's crucial information when choosing a computer! If you are lucky enough to live near an Apple Store (see link below to find out), give them a call and ask about "Talk Mac." They also have free classes in the store to help you learn how to use a Mac. You can attend one even before you buy. Otherwise, call 1-800-MY-APPLE and tell them what you want to do with your computer. Be open and honest about what you want. Macs will fit most people's needs quite well, but it is absolutely possible that you want or need something that is not available in the Mac world.
As mentioned before, I have never heard anyone say Macs aren't user-friendly. There are certainly people who prefer something else, but it's not because they are hard to use.
There are valid reasons to use a PC, but so far all the anti-Mac answers appear to be pretty ignorant about Macs. Very few websites are PC-only, for example. Also, PCs that are cheaper to buy than Macs, in my experience, are not a better value. They are cheaper because they are made more cheaply, and a PC with the same features as a Mac will usually cost a lot more.

Macs are extremely user friendly. I've never heard anyone say that a Mac is not user friendly. I switched to Mac two years ago, and I won't be buying another PC, ever. Macs are worth every single penny. As for notebooks, you won't find a better notebook than a Mac. Myself, I have a MacBook Pro. It goes everywhere I go. This wonderful machine is always at my side. If you have any specific questions about Macs, just send me a message. I'll be glad to help you out.

extra merchandising, a more suitable merchandising crew, straight forward layout, homogeneity. pc is largely any workstation no longer a mac, and obviously they're going to run the gamut in high quality/fee/layout. for this reason the merely element that Macs extremely have over each pc is they could run Apple proprietary software. there is also an image element that i'm noticing with Macs. via their branding and merchandising Macs are stated as "cooler" than their pc counterpart in certain subcultures. i'm pondering the truth that a great number of you placed down 'virus loose' as between the significant execs of a mac. That although has to do with the Unix depending operating gadget run on the Mac quite than the Mac itself. If pc shoppers are so susceptible, they could also get an outbreak loose operating gadget in between the various Linux flavors.

If you can afford it, go for the Macintosh. Largely because with the new batch of Macs, you can run both OSX and XP/Vista (Bootcamp). Since the quality of machines are quite good, you won't regret it.
OSX is pretty easy to use, and the security of it makes it worth running most of the time.
I'm running the newer Mac Pro system, and use XP most of the time because of some software that only runs on XP. It is by far the best PC I've ever owned.
Apple has made the decision pretty easy: run everything on quality hardware. Can't go wrong.

Go to a Store and compare a Mac to a PC.
Mac's are way easy to use and since you never used one it will look and feel different at first. But as you get to know them they are easy to use, navigate, find your stuff and do really cool projects.
Don't go off of what people here say cause there is a lot of bias towards either platform. I use both and like both, but i find a lot of the misinformation about Macs is born in ignorance.

The Mac is very easy to use.
Got to a local store and get a demonstration. If you like it, buy it.
Macs are very stable, secure and have all the software the PC's have.
Basically the choice between Mac and PC is your personal preference.

Go to any local Apple store and try one out yourself.
We got our Mac for Christmas and we were going gangbusters 20 minutes later! That includes 10 minutes to get it running out of the box. It is a little different than Windows, but not that hard to learn.
Best of all, no nasties!!!

Mac has a reputation of being very user friendly. You will generally get better value from a Wintel box.
