As a citizen of this great country, we receive rights and benefits, but we are also charged with responsibilities. One of them is jury duty. I hope you are not one of those individuals who want only to receive and not to give back to society.

Ah, see, there's a misunderstanding on your part. Someone has been ACCUSED of breaking the law. It's up to you and others to decide the facts of the case, just as I'd do the same for you if you were accused. It's a price we both pay for being a part of a somewhat civilized society of laws - it's a mutual obligation we have.
Yes, I've been to jury duty. I was called three times, actually got selected once, and served for half a day (the case of an accused child molester was negotiated without going to trial).

If not you who, in our justice system we get a jury of peers, people just like you and me to weigh the evidence and find the person guilty or not guilty. It is a bit more complicated then that, but that is the principle. What if everybody had your opinion, what if it was you or somebody you love, wouldn't you want them to have the fairest trial possible. That being said I have served on many juries in my life, from minor theft to murder. I felt it was a privileged to serve as juror and I did take it seriously. Peoples lives are at stake. Both the defendant and the victim deserved my best effort to sort things out and try to find the truth. You might just find it really educational as I did. You might even enjoy the experience if you give it your best shot to find the truth.

Because we are a nation of laws. Because everyone has the right to a trial by jury of their own peers. Because it is your civic duty to serve.
Just put yourself in the defendants place - especially one who is innocent. Who would you rather try you; a jury of your peers who must listen to all sides of the story, deliberate and examine the facts and decide - or one person, the judge, making decisions based on his own interpretation of things.

Yes, I've served on a jury. It is very inconvenient but I tried to think of it as a way I could contribute to my town and community.)somestimes it wasn't easy)

Because it's our Constitutional right to have a jury trial. And because sometimes those people are innocent.
