You can easily make it earn $25,000 a year for you without the half-million ever etting any smaller. Which means you can pay your basic living expenses without actually working for money, meaning you can do a job you like, or only work when you want to!
If you have $500,000 and you never spend it, invested it will easily double every seven years or so, enabling you to leave a HUGE amount in your will to a cause you love...

Put it in a high interest yeilding CD, or if you're adventurous invest it wisely in stocks.
