I was born at 31 weeks gestation weighing 3lb 6oz, I am now 5'7, 10 stone and a mother myself.
I'm sorry to hear your baby was born so prematurely, try not to worry the chances are good with modern medicine that she'll be just fine. It will take time and effort though, and you need to build a good working relationship with your daughter's doctors. I know it can be hard at times but you've got a long road ahead, so try to remember that you and the doctors are on the same side, you both want you daughter to thrive.
Try to talk to them. If possible, explain you find it hard, or better still, take someone (perhaps your significant other) to be a go between or translator between you and the doctors. It might be easier to talk to them or ask them questions with someone else there supporting you or even asking the questions on your behalf. If all else fails write down what you need to ask and read it or give it to your doctor. Take notes of their answersor even record them so that you can reread and think about it later when you feel calmer.
Good luck to you and you baby girl. I hope you both live long and happy lives together. You both will be in my thoughts.

You should ask the nurse for an update every day of your baby. Don't be afraid.
I had three premature children the last one was three months premature. He was 2 lb 11 oz when he was born and he did fine. He had no medical problems and just had to gain weight. They sent him home earlier than I expected at only 4 lb, only 3 weeks after he was born.
Every baby is different, but nowadays survival is good. You need to spend time with your child. Talk to the nurse, most of the time you will not see the doctor. The nurse can always answer your questions.
Just take it day by day.
Another reason why I came to post this answer here was to let people know about Social Security benefits. If your child is premature, you can apply for benefits. You should do that now while your child is still in the hospital.
I only found that out recently and I missed out (having 3 premature babies).

I was 3.5 months premature and now I'm 17 and healthy. Sure I have a few minor problems but nothing big. I had a minor bone deformity in my feet so instead of having 5 toes aligned straight on each foot by big toe made a v-shape with the second toe on both feet. I had it surgerically corrected 7 months ago. I have an eye issue but I can still see, just limited night vision and peripheral. Acid reflux. But I'm fine. in high school and taking 6 college courses. :-) Best of luck.

i was 3 months premature and i'm perfectly fine. You shouldn't worry so much.... she'll be fine. And girls have a better chance of premature birth and living than boys. But as long as she gets good care and everything then she should be okay. Good luck!!!!

you HAVE to talk to doctors, specialists, and pediatricians an find out as much as you can. get over your fear or embarassment or whatever you have and think of your baby. you want the best for the baby and need to make sure you do everything you can to see that she has a fair chance at life.

You really need to talk to the drs and nurses. This is your baby, and you're responsible for making decisions and being her voice. Keep a notebook with you and write down everything they say, then you can go back and look it up later.
