ooh cool!! well my 20 year old sis got braces when she was like 15 or 16. And I remember that she was in a lot of pain and it bothered her how she couldn't eat certain foods. So I decided to give up chewing gum and all of the other foods she couldn't eat. I was like 7 or 8, I don't remember. I recommend you find somebody who has braces or is willing to help you get through the first few weeks.
A lot of people may go against the rules but you shouldn't do that. If you do then you have a chance of messing up your braces and you may have to wear them for longer than what the orthodontist told you.
For the rubber bands, get cool colors! My sister would wear everybody in the family's favorite colors. She wore red for my Mom, blue for my Dad, purple for my sister and pink for me.

It may be hard to talk because you're gonna have a lot of spit and stuff-but it's cool, just do your best and try to get used to it. My sis would be slurping spit when she talked at first but after awhile she got used to the braces and talked fine.

Hang in there and enjoy having braces. Not everybody is from a family that is lucky enough to afford them. Just remember: If my sister got through it and the rest of the people in the world who have had braces can get through it-then you can too! Just imagine having a beautiful smile for the rest of your life!

All the best!

I just got braces about two weeks ago, and the one most important thing is I would advise you to take an Advil just before going, but my dentist said that only Advil will do justice. Also some great products are Colgate vivid white toothpaste, oral B super floss, and oral B mouth wash. For the fist couple of days your teeth will be extremely sore,(could barely even eat noodles...try Jello or ice cream) and if you get what they call bite bubbles, those are what hurt the most. But after a few days all the pain is gone and you can eat almost anything again...except gum

-Use the wax they give you on the sore spots. Normally on your bottom gums. The braces might cut them and you might bleed a little-that's normal.

-Eat a LOT before hand because you can't eat much afterwards.
It won't seem too painful and out of nowhere it starts to kill.

-Don't get red, your teeth look like they're bleeding. Don't get yellow, they look strange. Blue and pink are the best bet for colors for the bands.

-If they give you rubber bands or headgear...they probably will eventually...WEAR THEM. Or you'll have to suffer through surgery or a lot more time with them on.

-Brush WELL and floss also. Electric toothbrushes are useful.

i have braces and when they put them on and stuff it really didnt hurt at all, it was just a little sore. when they change them tho it hurts a little. after every time they change them it is sore for a bout a day but other then that it doesnt hurt. dont wear any of these colors for your own good:

dark green
dark blue
black
yellow
white
clear
tan
peach
or really light colors.

tips: WEAR YOUR RUBBERBANDS EVERY DAY IF YOU GET RUBBERBANDS. brush your teeth often and if you chew gum, it doesnt stick unless it is bubble gum. dont use whitening toothpaste because the way it whitens, it takes off tooth enamel so when you get your braces off, there will be marks where your braces were.

:) through it!

Just don't think about the pain... tell yourself it doesn't hurt... Also go to a Savons store and buy this little thing called Orajel. It nums your mouth and you can't feel anything! All you do is put the gel liquid thing in your mouth, like next to your teeth and on your gums... and you won't feel pain for a loong time... I suggest you buy two Orajel packs. and when you use it don't use a lot.

You want to buy something that you can bite on for when yuor teeth hurt, also...whenever you eat lunch, take a couple toothpicks with you, food gets stuck in braces all the time. Especially sandwhiches!

I have to tell you that it will hurt so be prepared to eat soft food for the next few days. Make sure you eat all of the stuff that you can't eat without braces today. Make sure you also do exactly what the orthodontist tells you.
