There are typically two instances when you pull your goalie:
1. You are behind by 1 or 2 goals towards the end of the game to get an extra skater on.
2. There is a delayed penalty called on the other team. Because play will stop when your team loses control of the puck, there is no worry about being scored on when you pull the goalie. This allows you get an extra skater on the ice to essentially have an extended power play*.
*The time for the deisgnated power play is not reduced by the amount of time you were able to have the extra skater on.

Before the point changes for wins and losses, there were actually several times when a team was AHEAD and pulled the goalie.
Picture a tight playoff race, and one team with the lead, BUT, in order to win the playoff race tie breaker, they had to win by four goals. (One of the tie breakers was goals scored on the season) They were only ahead by two. Sooo, they pulled the goalie in an attempt to get the extra goals they needed.
Also, it is part of the backup goalie's JOB to keep an eye on the other teams goalie, whether it be looking for weaknesses or studying his style for conversation in the lockerroom. It is very predicatble when the other team is going to pull the goalie, but you can bet that YOUR team's backup goalie is one of the first to notice.

well everyone is aware if a goalie aint in the net, especially the other team. the only reason to pull your goalie is if you are down by 1 with 2 minutes left in the 3rd Q and you need that extra man advantage.

I'm confused. If nobody is looking, do you pull your goalie? Why? People are going to notice the goalie missing and the empty net.

if you can find an arena where nobody is looking you could do anything you want to....the point of pulling the goalie in hockey is to put an extra man on the ice(usually is done in the last minute of the game by the losing team)to see if they can tie the score to go into overtime.that on the other hand leaves your goal wide open and easier to score on,but what does it matter if you lose by one goal or you lose by 2,i have seen it work and not work.so go for it!!!!!!

Yo man, sorry to say this but your question is quite odd in the wrong way. If you are talking about hockey, then you only pull your goalie if you are behind in a game. If you are talking about something else, then i refuse to comment.

Why? If I did the other team could shoot from mid-ice and get the empty netter. Besides someone from the other team is ALWAYS watching.
