I am going to an 80s party in a couple of weeks and decided to go as a workout girl. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on what I should wear and where I can get it. I definitely want to wear bright colors. Should I go with the leotard or something else? What accessories? What kind of shoes?

definitely go with the leotard, the head band, leg warmers (because women had a horrible problem keeping their legs from freezing back in the 80s) and the tights. Not sure what to recommend as for shoes... for total 80s nostalgia I'd suggest Kangaroos if you can find some somewhere. (all you really need to do is get Olivia Newton John's video for 'Physical' That's pretty much the costume right there.)

That sounds like such fun!!! I would wear a bright leotard with some colored pantyhose. Some socks that are scrunched up and a headband with hair in a ponytail. Plenty of make-up and pile on the bangles. For extra ideas watch some 80's music videos! Have a great time!!

I did this in middle school for time warp day. First, I put my hair in a side pony tail and teased it till it was really big. Then I took one of my old, warn out sweaters and cut the sleeves off, making leg warmers. Then I borrowed my friend's mom's capri leotard. I wore that with short, bright shorts over it and a big, gray sweatshirt. I wore sneakers too. You could add big hoop earrings too, but you don't have to cause you're supposed to be working out. I didn't do any make-up but I'm sure you could find some crazy 80's make-up if you googled it.

What I remember most from about 1985 (I lived in Northern California, and the girls I observed were about 13-14 years old) were sweatshirts with rough edges, as though they were torn around the neck, the pointed white Ked sneakers without shoestrings, and safety pins used as jewelry. What I am about to say next is weird, so bear with me: they were able to wear this without looking sloppy or poor. They looked well exercised, their clothes were immaculately clean and hair nicely done, etc. I don't know if this qualifies as "workout girl" but this is what I remember.

Leotard, leg warmers, bright electric blue tights, a headband, and frizzy curly hair.

Big plastic bangles, and white sneakers...
