Not exactly true. You need that air filter to protect your engine's internal parts from abrasive dust. There are some hi-flow filters out there that will increase the amount of air flow and help you get a couple of extra horsepower. It won't make a noticeable difference. Just make sure the filter gets changed every 60,000 miles or whatever your service manual recommends.
As for the second part, I'm not familiar with that particular model, but on most cars, you put the filter in place, put the cover on, and close the clips around the edges. You shouldn't have to do much "squishing"
Whoever told you that, don't listen to his car advice anymore.

You need the air filter and it should be clean so you r car can get sufficient air for combustion. As far as "squishing" doen the cover, that is not necessary. Possibly you have the wrong filter or air breather assembly. You simply drop it in and replace the cover and secure it with either a wing nut or clips, whichever your Honda is equiped with.

the air filter is very important to protect your engine from dirt and dust thats why it is put there in the first place, now if you were told to leave it out to me this would mean that the engine has a lot of miles on it and is using oil as well as petrol so leaving out the filter will let more air in to the engine and stop it from using more oil, for a while anyway. it might be a good idea to have your engine checked out by some one in the know ok.

Cars are made with a spot for the air filter for a reason. It filters out dust and particles which could get into the engine. All you have to do is replace it regularly. It lasts a long enough time unless you drive constantly and for long distances or through dusty areas. You should learn to inspect it and maintain your car.
Take a look at the website below.

I even have 2 2003 civics and in keeping with my journey, the filter out is plenty late for a metamorphosis. ok&N filters are very solid yet they gained't provide you any noticable progression if potential on the civic and are in simple terms solid if y ou're going to maintain the vehicle for a protracted time and are prepared to bathe the filter out each and every 10k or so with the cleansing kit that incorporates the filter out. i think of the production facility filter out is a plenty extra effective deal and that i alter my filter out each and every 18 months or 20k. i think of the production facility says verify it at each and every service and replace it at 30k periods. i think of you will have the means to purchase a number of of the production facility filters for the cost of the ok&N and you will no longer could desire to do any paintings cleansing them. desire that helps.

Get the correct sized filter and you won't have to SQUISH it down. If you leave the filter out, you will be sucking dirt into your engine, which will kill your engine faster.
