Yes, I've figured it out.
You dress up a simple question as a supposedly difficult question, then play on peoples' innate need to be thought of as more clever than their peers by inviting them to prove their "genius" status, or play on peoples' innate curiosity, which is even easier, then you sit back and count the number of dummies you've sucked in, making you feel more clever than your peers.
