Sometimes, I have to take a step back, breathe deeply several times and tell myself, "Getting mad does not make this situation any better."
For example, when sitting in rush hour traffic, I quickly get unnerved and start yelling at the cars. Obviously, I can't really remove myself from this situation, unless I want to pull over and lose my spot in line. So, I have learned to leave work later (realizing what my anger "triggers" are and avoiding them). When I do have to sit in traffic, I do progressive muscle relaxation in my most tense muscles and tell myself, "Yelling at the cars will not make them move faster. There's little you can do to change this situation now. Just breathe and sing (I sing show tunes at the top of my lungs as a replacement to screaming)."

Walk away.
It makes no sense to get mad at something that does nothing else but upset you.

This is what made me think..
I am supposed to be an engineer supposed to fix things and make them better.
Well, I have a remote control to lock my car doors.
Well, I sometimes forgot to roll up the windows.
What did I do?
Just cussed and went back and rolled up the windows.
Well, somebody actually invented a way to automatically roll up the car windows. They profited off of my anger.
So, it is better to look at them as opportunities, rather than anger.

Best just to look for intelligence elsewhere.
It takes a while to find it.

I go for a walk and don't come back to the situation until I am completely calm. Many times my attitude has changed completely and this way I don't need to make a number of apologies for saying something I would later regret.

first i release my anger physically on inanimate objects, take a valium or something, breathe deep, try to meditate and try to realize that being angry is not going to help the situation at all. Youre only angry because you think you're angry, its hard to overcome, but it works
