i'm really not trying to put the book down, i'm just really, really curious. My friend recommended it to me and the first two books were okay; I thought, "cool, another book where the new kid joins the popular clique and stands up to them" but I borrowed the other books from my friend, and I keep on thinking, "where is the STANDING UP?! claire seems to be as stupid as the rest of em; shallow, materialistic, and superficial"
plus, I live in westchester, and I find this book offending. Sure, some of us live in big houses and wear nice clothes but I don't know anybody as self-absorbed and conceited as the 'Pretty Commitee'.
And... I don't know, I think the book promotes all the wrong things. You don't have to agree with me; that's why I asked the question, but I really hope you see my point of view.
If these types of books are what's bestselling these days, then I have a feeling I know what's giong to society in a few more years...
Please, give me an argument to contemplate.

the format of these stories are just... bleh, and the plot (especially on "it's not easy to be mean" with the key) feels really fake and made-up.

the a-list, it-girl, and gossip girl series are pretty much the same too; except much, MUCH worse, because in those books, the girls are in high school and they drink, get suspended, expelled, have sex, do drugs, and STILL remain popular.
