17Don’t you understand that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the belly, and then out of the body? 18But the things which proceed out of the mouth come out of the heart, and they defile the man. 19For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual sins, thefts, false testimony, and blasphemies. 20These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands doesn’t defile the man.”

Maam!

The reference you make is indeed a challenge for an unbeliever.
I believe you make reference to an answer given by Jesus to the Pharisees. Tricky,...but true. I KNOW, yes society says "wash your hands, as did the Old Testament Law..." I have been so hungry in the Korean War, 1951, I ate MOST of my food with un-washed hands, inclusive of "frozen canned Spaghetti," -True.

"God can pour on the blessings in astonishing ways so that you're ready for anything and everything. More than just ready to do what needs to be done." ( 2 Corininthians 9:8 )

Knew a Pastor once who referred to the Corinthians as "Californians," because of their "odd" ways. (I am from San Diego, CA...) Like your courage, rare today!

You have to look to into context. You see the religous leaders accused Jesus; disciple for breaking the law by not waqshing their hands. Jesus pointed out that they should not be so worried about the outward than about the inward uncleanese he basically said the real uncleanese comes form within and that the outside was superficial. The pharisees where to focus on the outside they neglected the inside. You understand now?

And Jesus also said that whatsoever a man thinketh in his heart, so is he. Both scriptures mean that what a person feels in his heart, or his conscience, can make them unclean and nasty people if they are basically full of evil and bad thoughts and little conscience. A persons language will show what is in their hearts and minds.

Hi,
He meant in a spiritual sense, but you could make yourself sick if your hands were contaminated with chemicals or germs, or a virus. So a good wash isn't such a bad idea. Do you work in a food service...if you do, please wash your hands!

So I don't have to wash my hands before returning to work based on religious beliefs?
