The goonies is a great movie because it's the embodiment of what we always wanted to do as 12 year olds.
It's the realization of a dream come true.
It's also about empowerment. The characters are showing that they are capable individuals with critical thinking skills and deserve respect and AWE!
It's what we wanted to be as kids- instead of the clumsy, unsure and adventure-less people we really were.
We would have all given up a precious body part to have the opportunity for magic to come true when we were 12.

I totally know what you mean. I get a special feeling from the mood of old 80s movies, that you cant feel in movies made now. Just how, people acted and dressed differently. The music also, and also the movie just has an awesome story line with pirate treasure, that is a classic part of many good stories, and movies. And chunk, or whatever the name of that creepy dude is also a very original character.

Its not only cute but a funny movie. I love the part where chunk
keeps getting stuck with the stiff, in the freezer and then in the
back of the car , in the trunk. I LMAO everytime those parts
come on. Its starting to be a cult favorite like The Warriers and
The Lost Boys.

Because it's one of those sentimental '80s movies for kids that wasn't "preachy" or talked down to kids. It was one of those movies that both kids and adults could both enjoy. It had adventure, humor, mystery, a chase, monsters, cool 80's music, a little romance, and A PIRATE SHIP Complete with skeleton pirates! It was kind of like "Indiana Jones for younger kids"

It's a coming-of-age movie... If they are done right, they're always great! (Stand By Me, Sixteen Candles, etc.)
