Three things (so far):
1.) Going to morning aikido training and getting schooled by a fellow classmate during a technique. When that happens, I smile.
2.) Going to morning aikido training and schooling a fellow classmate during a technique. When that happens, I smile.
(any schooling regardless of direction means someone is making progress - that's a reason to be happy)
3.) Thinking about a friend of mine that emailed me out of the blue a few weeks ago. We've been trying to line up our schedules so we can spend some time with and catch up so the idea of seeing her again makes me smile. I enjoy her (as a person) and her company so there you go.
That's what made me smile today. I guess I'll have to wait and see what makes me smile tomorrow.
edit - jennifer - awesome, but I'm curious as to what specific song it was.

In reference to Ned Block from Dennet's "Philosophical Lexicon"
http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Consciousness_studies:_Nineteenth_and_twentieth_century_philosophy#Ned_Block_.281942-_.29
block, n. (1) (shortened from mental block) A sort of organic stoprule or safety valve that prevents people from going crazy when they consider thought experiments exploiting combinatorial explosion. "It's a good thing I had a block just then! I was getting a trifle dizzy when he started going on about storing all the possible descriptions of the universe in a book made out of tiny galaxies pretending they're electrons." n. (2) A small but obdurate obstacle preventing the smooth operation of a mechanism, a spanner in the works. Hence, mental block, an objection to functionalism obsessively maintained in the face of all manner of refutations, blandishments and appeals to common cause.

Let me count the ways! My kitty Snooze Button reminding me at 10 minute intervals the alarm had gone off, first cup of coffee w/toffee creamer & a dash of brandy (it's been very cold!), magenta sunrise over the lake & the whistles of red winged blackbirds, & "laughing" of the ducks, a very sweet email from a friend who will be out of touch for 2 weeks, the smile from an elderly lady whose Sat. mail I picked up for her, marinating steak to grill later & have with garlic compound butter, signing my last painting, reflecting in my journal, opening the windows to a cold but dazzling bright sunny day, writing letters to friends at distances, yummy fire roasted red pepper soup (homemade) for lunch, chatting with friends, getting ready for an HOA meeting to see what can be done for a very old man who can't pay his dues, & the day isn't even over. Got more than you asked for, yes?!

A little black fuzzy puppy outside the window of Giant Tiger in Cornwall. The sweet wee creature made everyone who saw it smile.
