If you intend to study full-time at university, it will not be possible for you to earn $20,000 annually. If you work part-time during the school year, the money you earn will most likely be spent on the necessities of living (books, food, entertainment, etc.).

If you work during the summers, it is possible to earn money, but again, that money would be spent on living expenses (rent, food, car, etc.).

Most college students finance their education through a combination of grants, scholarships, parental contributions, and student loans.

I have placed two websites below that are specifically directed toward international students wishing to study in the US. Both websites contain valuable information about ways to finance one's education.

I wish you every success.

There are many good colleges in the US that offer Engineering degrees. You will need to contact the college of your choice to find the actual cost. Most of them have websites so you could type in the name of the college you want to attend to find it.

As for making $20,000 a year, we don't know what skills or experience you have so there's no way anyone can tell you for sure. Besides that, $20,000 may or may not be enough depending on where you will live. For instance, in Los Angeles, CA, or New York City, you could not live on that. In many other states/cities, you could. The link below will give you some detailed information on jobs and pay.
