BAGHDAD (Reuters) - More than 1,000 U.S. and Iraqi troops met no resistance on Sunday when they searched homes for illegal weapons and carried out patrols in a Shi'ite militia bastion in Baghdad. U.S. military statement said 600 American and 550 Iraqi security forces backed by American Stryker armored vehicles took part in the operation. It said no one was detained nor any weapons caches found. There was no violence.
al Sadr, a key supporter of Shi'ite Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, has criticized the crackdown and said it will fail as long as U.S. forces are involved.

Well, duh, al-Maliki knew where the Iraqi/American forces were headed. Did we think he wouldn't warn al Sadr? In fact there are Iraqi troops who are also prepared to protect their own. The US is determined to show force regarding this "surge" together with Iraqi troops. But the troops will know ahead of time where the next "surge" will be.
This is all show.

al Sadr and his group along with other rogue groups are simply hiding out. They will continue to hide out. They remember Fallujah. No one want that type massacre again. This 'surge" ? - too much advance notice. It's all too well laid out...

I don't care that alSadr wants to help run his own country..he is merely protecting his own. EVERYONE - every foreign country needs to get out!

no. what would you do if you were a target. his brothers and father were killed by saddam. al sadrs goal is an independent iraq, meaning not controlled by the US,british, syria or iran. there are more dangerous groups than the mahdi militia. killing him will not stop the mahdi militia and will most likely make it worse. he is kept his end of the deal made with the iraq government and the US.
