The Advertising Standards Agency I believe is the one to complain to... but the point is ..do they listen or take matters seriously.
What we ourselves can do is just walk away from those commercials and come back in time to continue with the programme. Also we have to boycott the products they bombard us with and buy what we want and require. not being influenced by the TV adverts adversely.
They can afford to spend millions on their adverts but won't reduce their prices simply by not advertising , this would have cut the costs.Anyhow they are after our money and the rest does not interest them.

It is supposedly regulated but all that means is that sound has to fit within a range. In a TV show this means the moment before the cat jumps on someone will be quiet, but the feline appearance will be announced by strings cha-chaaaa! at full volume. In this case, the regulations work.
However, for most ads (automobile are the worst), they simply leave the volume at maximum for the duration. This is as old as TV and nobody seems to want to change it.
With the advent of HD tv broadcasting, this has gotten even worse with some channel being louder than others. This is because the FCC has not seen fit to enforce volume regulations on the higher band channels yet.
I take it personally by making sure I NEVER buy any product that screams ads at me.

Yes I am sick of it you have to keep turning the sound up and down I don't know why they do it because I just change the channel or mute the sound during the adverts. There must be someone to complain to because channel five got fined for playing the adverts too loud.

I always kill the sound through the adverts anyway, but I do notice a difference in sound levels between different programmes. For example on the news I have it on level 7 for the BBC National News and then have to turn it up to a 10 for the BBC Scottish News. Most annoying.

Its utterly disgusting that broadcasters can do this sort of thing, In our household one of us has to grab the remote as soon as those infernal ad's come on because the noise is very excessive and I am sure the neighbours can hear it.
I think the the people responsible are very inconsiderate are also quite ignorant to do this.
As with everything else that annoys the general public, we get the same old answer 'nothing can be done'

I am conditioned to hit the mute button whenever commercials start. My only exceptions are the Geico gekko and the yellow Lab in the flea commericals.

Another thing I have found is that commercials are a conspiracy. If one show goes to commercial, and you channel flip to another, chances are that there is a commerical on that station also.

As far as complaining, it won't do any good. Just treat the mute button as your best friend.

Yes, very annoying..but they are obviously trying to get your attention...I do believe it is allowed and I don't think there is anyone we can complain to that will do any good...just turn the vol.down or go do something else for the 3-4 minutes they are on and come back to enjoy what you were watching.

In order, yes, yes, and nobody.

There are no regulations of any form regarding relative volume of programs and commercials, so no agency claims jurisdiction of our annoyance.

Some tvs now come with an automatic volume controll to equalize the commercials.

Sorry.

I think they do it because they know nobody watches the ads and they want you to still be able to hear them when you are on the loo or in the kitchen making a cup of tea. I agree its wrong though. Dont know where they stand legally.

I hate those damn ads making my ears bleed, but I love Sky plussing a show and then watching it later being able to fast forward through the ads. I do it deliberately to miss the ads!
