There are two ways for you to be able to secure a router:

1. By converting an old computer with 2 Ethernet cards into one.
2. By purchasing one.

Option 1 is feasible if you have an old computer lying around, say a Pentium II, 64-128 MB, 1-2 GB machine. You can then purchase two Ethernet cards and install it onto your computer. Then, you'll have to download an operating system or firewall for the router. One very good firewall is Smoothwall, which you can download for free at www.smoothwall.org. After installation, you will then configure the firewall settings through a Web browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox. Sound complicated? Then option 2 is for you.

Option 2 is more practical. You can just purchase a router from your favorite computer store, then set it up via a Web browser. You won't have to install anything.

If you do not know how to install or configure a network, or a router, then I suggest that you hire a technician and let him/her do the setup. In this way, you won't have to worry about the cabling and configuration.

Sounds like you want a "local area network" instead of te internet connected network you now have. the easiest way is to simply unplug your internet connection from the router.
