My daughter and her friends caught a snake and are taking care of it now that they know what it eats. They asked me how long it would live,I didn't want to give her a wrong answer......

Generally reptiles live a long time considering how little energy they use because they are cold blooded. An estimate of a Garter snake (and thank you for not calling it a Garden snake) is up to about 10 years if properly cared for.

If properly cared for a garter snake can live between 8-10 years. A great snake for first time snke lovers!
