I've never made a diaper cake, but I have been researching instructions on the internet. I don't know how to get the tiers to attach to the base, and to each other. Seems like loops of Scotch tape would tear the Pampers, and I don't understand how dowels would work if the tiers are graduated sizes, like a wedding cake.
I have the basic idea, but just need this information. Oh, and what do you use for the bottom circle? It would have to be sturdy enough to hold the weight of the "cake" when transporting it. Guess I'm "dum," but I need help!!!

I run a diaper cake business...."Diaper Cakes by Becca" and I don't use cardboard bases. I make my cakes very sturdy by making sure they are very SOLID (roll those diapers up and put them in there until no more will fit). I put tall products on the inside (tall containers of bath salts or baby bath) to hold the tiers together. This way the cake sits solid on the base but isn't attached.

If you really want to attach the cake to the base.....you can run ribbon (sheer ribbon would probably work well) vertically and then around the base to be tied at the top!! If you insert dowel rods through the absolute center this would definately work as the top tier still is wide enough to thread two or three through the entire cake.

I use actual platters to place my cake on....a pizza pan would work well, too!! If you go to a place like Ross or Mervyn's you can probably find a nice platter for relatively inexpensive (less than five bucks....).

Hope this helped!!

You're not dum by any means!!!!! You don't need the dowels to secure the tiers. I've done that and there is no difference between having them and not having them! The diapers are going to shift somewhat. Just be sure to put enough diapers and secure it tightly with ribbon. I discovered that using clear elastics (found at the hair accessories department at any Target or Walmart) works best on keeping the diapers wrapped individually instead of tape. And what I use is as the base to hold the diaper cake, is a cake platter with ruffle skirt already attached to it. I get that at AC Moore. It comes in different sizes and price ranges from $2.99 for small to $5.99 for the xlarge. To complete the look, I buy tulle to match the color scheme and wrap the entire diaper cake. That will definitely keep things from moving around, and it looks amazing. I can email you a picture of the one I did: unforgettablemomentsbyandrea@yahoo.com. Good luck!

Cake Cardboard Base

I cut a heavy cardboard box for the bottom of the cake. I didn't attach the cake to the base. I didn't have any problems with it sliding off on the way to the shower.

The cakes are not made to handle rough treatment, it's a decoration not a toy. Don't stress too much on making it tornado proof. No one will try to tip it over.

They are things that can only be discovered after hundreds and hundreds of trials. And of course, strict restriction needs to be in place. However, because the basis of science is always changing due to new discoveries, we need to also have sympathy to the drug company as well. They are not miracle makers, they only try to make profits by selling something that they "think" might help other people. Imagine the world without antibiotics and other medication, how many people would have to die? If we agree that science can be changed, the drug company might not have an excuse of increasing medication prices because of law suit. Also if we look at any other area that has used the socialist system it has bogged down and failed to live up to its Utopian promise. No system is perfect but open and free market is the best out there.

Put it on a thick piece of cardboard, and wrap it in cellophane, you know that clear wrap. It works great, thats what my friend used for her diaper cake. That kept hers together as well.
Also what she did was wrapped each section with a wide ribbon, and it looked really pretty.
