A small percentage yes. The more time I spend on the computer, the less time I have to read. So if the question was does staying busy on the computer keep you from reading as many books as you might otherwise read...then a strong yes. Yahoo Answers specifically though...I'm only here a half an hour to an hour each day. Not enough time to make a difference. It's the writing blogs, reading blogs, doing email, and playing Sims, downloading stuff to play for Sims, that keeps me distracted. That being said, I still read more than the average person probably does. In a good week, I might read four to six novels. On a slow week--like this past one--I only read two. But it varies week to week, I've probably read thirty or forty novels in February alone.

I've just finished reading all available books in the "Earth's Children" series (first one 'Clan of the Cave Bear') and find reading stops me from looking at this site...
Actually; I am very old and after I've been reading for a while my eyes get sore and I need to put the book down and go and do something else...like THIS.
Then I've got a few James Herbert books waiting for me...

Absolutely not. I keep my time spent on this site (and any other) to a minimum, and have been reading more than ever. Actually, I seem to have been reading more since spending time in the Books & Authors section.
There's a lot of nonsense to wade through, but I've stumbled across some valuable recommendations.

well your book can't interest you that much then
i can have a book that i like but don't read every chance i get (i come here and answer questions or i go to another site and talk to friends)
or i can have a book that i really love and can't put down no matter what (its like the whole world disappears till I've finished that book)

Not at all. I have two books on the go at the moment. One in the car for when I park outside school to wait for my son and one beside the bed. I cant do without a book to read.

This site doesn't stop me from reading at all. However, I think this is a total detriment to education. The amount of high school students on here who ask questions (for reports or homework) is embarrassing. They'll never learn anything if they constantly get answers handed to them by other people.

I'm never not reading a book. Whether I'm reading it over to refresh my memory or for the first time. You can't find when I'm not reading a book. I read every night before I go to bed, it elps to stimulate dreams for me and make adventures come alive.

It's not just this site, I have several that I find addictive. Yes, they do cut into my reading time.
Now that you've reminded me, I'll go finish the last fifty pages of the Australian chick lit that I have going and start the new Kinsella bestseller.

Tell me about it, I've been reading the same book since before Christmas and I have forgotten the start now!

Heck no! I finished two 28-chapter books with about 300 pages each in a day, so I would guess not!
