I am now only getting SMP of £108 a week so am going to be on a low income. I understand I can claim tax credits (child & working) and a surestart grant once the baby is born but is there anything more I can get in the interim?

Thanks

Have a look at the DWP and JobCentre websites to check - but off the top of my head I suspect not. I work with homeless families and many of my pregnant clients get only £45 a week to live off prior to their baby's birth, whilst having to live independently and pay all their own bills.

Because you aren't paying rent you won't get Housing Benefit (and I'm afraid that even if your mum started charging you rent, I believe you still wouldn't get it as she's a relative) - but do check your mum's financal situation, because if she's on HB herself you need to let them know you're living there. And if she was previously the only adult in the house, then you living there will mean the Council Tax bill going up, so look into whether you're entitled to any Council Tax benefit.

But generally, I'm afraid, you've hit the nail on the head - during your pregnancy you aren't entitled to all that much, although when the baby arrives there are more benefits available (don't forget milk tokens). In addition to the sure start grant (if you're entitled to it), child tax credit is higher in the first year to help you get off to a good start.

Your best bet would be to try and find a local welfare rights advisor to help you check what you're entitled to. The Citizens' Advice Bureau may be able to help, or put you in touch with someone.

Good luck - and congratulations on your pregnancy.

difficult project. If he's undesirable information and in no way going to be a reliable father than stay clean for a lengthy time period. unhappy that she is already making the determination for the youngster now to not communicate with its father. there is not any way he can make her get rid of it. She must be all in favour of that procedure. Abortions do not take position by technique of magic. there's a well being care service in contact. i'm particular after a lengthy time period he will discover out that she is 5 months pregnant or regardless of the truth that and there'll be some massive blow up. Why did not you tell me etc etc. I had a suitable to understand etc etc. something I could talk about. the most common rationalization for death in pregnant women individuals is homicide. no longer death in childbirth or maybe vehicle injuries. it truly is homicide. If he's truly undesirable information then stay away and in no way contact him again.

Claim what????

if you can get him to consent to a DNA test to prove he is the father (dont get mad at me for saying this, its just advice) and it proves he is the father, then you can take him to court for child support but nothing else....

You need to talk to an attorney. Don't trust advice from anyone else.
